This project was a collaboration with AUX Architecture, who designed the remodel of the house to make it more functional for the clients, a young family with a sophisticated eye for design. The original backyard was mostly slope and had very little usable space other than the pool. New low retaining walls extended the flat yard creating a lawn and seating areas around the pool, as well as creating space for a rich perennial garden off the master bedroom and bathroom. Distant views were preserved, but carefully placed hedging and a wooden screen create privacy from the street. The front garden celebrates the mid-century aesthetic of the house and the façade creates a dramatic backdrop for a boldly planted border.
